METHODIST CONFERENCE.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. The second annual conference of ministers and representatives of the Methodist Church of New Zealand -was opened last night in the presence of a large attendance of clergymen and representative laymen. . The lUiv. Samuel La wry,■ of Christchurch (the retiring president) presided and delivered a retiring' address dealing principally with the future policy of the Church. ' The oiliee-bearers' election resulted as follows:—President, Rev. S. J. Serpell; vice-president, Mr. Rosevearc; secretary, Rev. C. H. Laws; assistant secretaries, Revs. Sinclair and Drake;. Rev. T. A. .Toughin. retiring president, vacated the chair, which was taken kj the Rev. Serpell, who said he felt very keenly the position they had placed him in. That he had won the esteem of the members of the conference was proved by their vote, and he would do his best to guard the trust reposed in him. Whatever of body, brain and heart he had would be given to the Church.

The Standing Committees will 'bo elected to-morrow morning, and the conference will then adjourn until Saturday to enable various committees to discuss the work to he done.
