JiKFOKE THE CONCILIATION COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Saturday The Conciliation Council, under .VIr.T. Ha lie (lilia, sat this morning to consider the Auukland coal asd carijo workers' dispute. The applicant union'in the organisation recently formod of cxstriki'M. who were refused membership to the new arbitration union. The respondent employers iia.il filed the following statement of defence: (1) The applicants are noj workers within the meaning of the Act, sot being employed as waterside) workers; (2) the respo'nlenU have n (> dealings with the AiWfelanU <'oal and Cargo Workers' Imduv trial Union of Workers, and, therefore kavi no dispute with it; (3) the waterside workers employed by the respondents are not members of* the Auckland Coal and Cargo Workers' Union; (4.) the waterside workers employed bv the respondents are members of'the Auckland Waterside Workers' Union and the respondents have enured into nn industrial agreement with the union for a period of three years, and can recognise only one union embracing workdone on the waterfront. Application was made by the Car«o Workers' Union to join the Auckland Waterside Workors' Union as parties to the dispute. The Commissioner pointed out that it was usual to give fair notice to those whom it was desired to join as parties He would adjourn the further henrintill Wednesday, March 4. "
