A copy of the. Solicitor-General's opinion, that it is still necessary to obtain the Minister's consent to retirements under sections 35 and 38 of the Act, was received from the Public Servic« Commissioner.
It. was resolved that the following representations by the Public Service Association through the Public Service Commissioner bo not agreed to:—(a) That it is desirable that any temporary officer in the Govermnonl, service who was appointed permanently after .Tune SO, 1!M>8, may he allowed to purchasa for superannuation purposes his Servian from the date of the establishment of the fund and not from the date of his appointment an permanent ollicer; and (h), that for the purposes of supef'annuntion tho position of civil servants retrenched in 1»0!I he placed before the Commissioners, and that the Commissioners i»e asked to endeavor to have unbroken service of such mil servants prior to that retrenchment treated as continuing ami added to such service as they have hail since their retirement. Messrs Allport, Frascr and digging were re-elected a Claims Committee for the ensuing year. Retiring allowances under section S,T (age length of service) totalling £3857 18» per annum were granted to twenty-nine contributors under section Mi (retirements as medically unlit). tfive contributors were granted allowances totalling £IG2 15s per annum; eight widows and fourteen children were granted statutory allowances amounting to ££>« per'annum. The aggregate nmouut of all allowances granted wius £434(1 13s per annum; average allowance under sections 35 :md 3ii being £llß 5s per *annum. Tho amount of compensation accrued to oflieers retired was £!)lflO 14s lid. The amount to the credit of the fund in the hands of the Public Trustee as on January 31st, 11)14, was .£584,531 lis, an increase over the prcactling veinof £113.307 8s 7(1. '
