CONCILIATION COUNCIL.
DUNEDIN BUTCHERS' AWARD, Per Press Association. Durjcdin, Wednesday. A rather unusual condition was disclosed at the Conciliation Council this morning, -which sat to hear the application of the ©.pcrative butchers for a new award in the direction of obtaining a fifty hours' week and wages ranging from £4 to £3 ss. The old award was made twelve years ago. The employers' assessors refused to discuss the demands, and announced,,that they wanted concessions on th,e. old award. The Commissioner said it was the first occasion such an application had been made to him. The union's representatives pointed out that the masters in some cases were getting up to 2d per lb.for meat more than was obtained in other centres. The masters replied that some butchers employed no labor and undercut prices severely. The dispute was adjourned for a month, with little prospect of settlement.
