Mr. John Gilmour, of Manaia, is on a short visit to New Plymouth. The Opunake Town Board hai» ap~ pointed Mr. W. Kitchingman to be itsrepresentative oh the Egmont National Park Board. Mr. G. H. Pownall, secretary to the Wanganui Rugby Union, arrived by the mail train last night, on a short visit to New Plymouth. The death occurred in Auckland-on Saturday of Mr. Wm. Thomas Hildreth, sen., one of Wellington's early settlers, in his eighty-first year. Messrs. J. Paton, F. P. Corkill, and H. Stocker, have been re-elected to be representatives of the fire insurancecoinpauies on the Hawera Fire Board. Mr. J. D. Henry, the oil expert, and Mr. Craig, of Scotland, and the analytical chemist engaged by the New Plymouth Taranaki Oil Wells Limited, will arrive-in New Plymouth by the mail train this evening. A Press message from Auckland yesterday stated that Sergeant Sage was the last survivor of the,sßth Regiment, who came to New Zealand in 1845, This is not so, as Mr. W. H. Free, who took part in the same engagements as Sage,. ia still living in New Plymouth.
