WORK AND WAGES.
THE FEDERATION OF LABOR. Per Press Association. Christchurch, Wednesday. Regarding the July Unity Conference, Mr. R. Semple, organiser of the Federation, of Labor, informed a reporter today that matters were looking prosperous. The majority of the trades unions of the Dominion had agreed to be represented, and so far • the credentials of over 200 delegates had bedn returned. He anticipated that when the conference met there would be present close 6n 300 delegates, representing the entire trades union movement of'the Dominion. The conference would be, without doubt, the biggest labor congress ever held in New Zealand. ■ "We have every reason to believe," he added, "that the conference will, without very, much difficulty, arrive at a common understanding in regard to united political and industrial action."
THE TIMARU TROUBLE. Timaru, Last Night. It is stated that the Union Steam Ship Company have agreed to employ members of the new Waterside Union as well as those of the Federated Union. The Taranaki Chamber of Commerce has_ passed a resolution protesting against ahy shipping company or employer of labor entering into any compact which may prevent free labor being' employed if necessity arises, and considers that any such agreement will be prejudicial to the interests of the Dominion. .
