WAIKATO WINTER SHOW.
OPENED BY THE PREMIER. Per Press Association. Hamilton, June 4. The Premier opened the Waikato Winter Show yesterday in the presence of 5000 people. In reply to a deputation regarding the site of the North Island Agricultural College, Mr. Massey agreed that the Ruakura State Farm was the most suited site for such a college, and intimated that he intended to establish an agricultural board, composed of Government nominees and representatives to be appointed by tiie - agricultural societies of both islands. Until the time when the site of the college could be fixed, the functions of 'the board would be to advise the Minister of Agriculture on all matters of importance. In the past this great ■ industry had not received sufficient attention and he had been only able to give two or three hours a week to the business, whicli was not enough, and which required special Ministerial attention.
The Premier turned on the Frankton Borough electricity and waterworks, costing £19,000. After the banquet, he received deputations, and in reply to the No-license League regarding the reduction of the majority vote, he said that the Bill was at present under consideration, and the Government did not intend to go back on anything it had promised. The Waikato Winter Show 100-guinea challenge cup for export butter (open) was won by: Golden Bay Dairy Co., Nelson, 1; Maurieeville Company, Wairarapa, 2; Taihape 3, followed by Taieri Peninsula.
