He says that he found the average Englishman appallingly ignorant of Australian affairs.; indeed, the condition was not so much one of ignorance as of absolute misconception. Even the better-informed generally based their ideas of Australia on what they tad seen during a visit to Canada, which •was handy and generally chosen by those who were desirous of acquainting themselves with Empire affairs. With regard to the financial situation, the position had eased considerably. The difficulty experienced in securing a loan recently was passing away.
