A POISONING FATALITY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. W. J. Heiford, a storcman in the employ of Williams & Kettle, Ltd., died about 1 o'clock this morning as the result of drinking a poisonous mixture, containing carbolic ami cresylic acids, the previous evening. A SUICIDE. i Christchurch, Last Night. The police have received information that a married woman named Marina Mary Roper, thirty-livi* years of age, is believed to have committed suicide by hanging herself at I'ourtenay, about 5 p.m. yesterday. A GUARD'S DEATH. Hamilton, Last Night. At the inquest on Guard Bradbury the evidence showed that the accident occurred at ]■ o'clock in the morning. Bradbury was assisting in shunting, and got his foot jammed in a rail crossing, and was unable to extricate himself before the goods train knocked him down, fractured his left shoulder, broke four of his left ribs, caused a contusion of the left foot, and the left lung was torn by the broken ends of the ribs. Pneumonia set in on Saturday, and deceased succumbed to septic pneumonia yesterday. A guard said that accidents often occurred through a rush. If they did not rush shunting they were fined for excessive delay. He stated that the yard was very rough to work. A verdict of accidental death was returned, with no blame attachable to anyone. A SUDDEN DEATH. Greymouth, Thursday. At the inquest on Walter Davis, who was found dead in his hut on Tuesday at Otira, the evidence showed that Davis got into his mate's bunk on the previous night and told his mate to take his. The latter said, "Give me a light; it's the last you'll give me." His mate gave evidence that Davis was smoking when the candle was blown out. Next morning he was found cold and stiff. A verdict of heart failure was returned. Davis was a native of South Australia.
