HARBOR BOARD. , (Prom Our Own Correspondent). The statutory annual meeting of the ' Opunake Harbor Board was held on Wednesday last. Present: Messrs MaeReynolds, Hughson, Moore, Macfie, Lam- ' bie and Malcolm. Mr. M. J. Maeßeynolds was appointed chairman. ' _ Mr. Maeßeynolds briefly replied, thanking the members for their confidence, and remarked that this Board departed from the usual custom. Most boards in electing chairmen chose their strongest man. This course had a tendency to produce a one-man board. They had chosen the weakest man. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: From Blackball Coal Co., pointing out the necessity for better shipping facilities at Opunake, and urging upon the Board the importance of such improvement to the harbor.—The chairman stated that he had replied to the Blackball Company asking for the price of coal delivered at I the anchorage. } From the Commissioner of Crown '.Lands, enclosing original copies of seven I leases of endowment lands. Mr. Maeßeynolds said that he had interviewed Mr. Wilkinson, M.P., with regard to additional reserves asked for, Mr. Wilkinson had promised to place the matter before the proper authority. --Mr. Wilkinson was thanked for ms services. \ Mr. Maeßeynolds moved that the con j sideration of loan and other items in j connection therewith be postponed until next meeting.—Carried. The chairman was appointed treasurer. AN .INDUCTION. , The Rev. 0. M. Stent, M.A., wag. Instituted to the cure of the Opunake-Ka-ponga parochial district on Friday last at St. Barnabas' Church, before a large congregation. The service was conducted by the Ven. Archdeacon Cassells, of Hawera, assisted by his cousin, the Rev. W. F. Stent, vicar of Manaia. The Archdeacon addressed the congregation upon the duties the pries't and the people owed one another. After the induction service the annual meeting of parishioners was held. The balance-sheet showed a sound financial position. The following officers were elected: —Vicar's warden, Mr. G. W. Rogers; people's warden, Mr. W. L. Chambers; vestry, Messrs J. Feaver, senr., W. ■J. Knell, J. Feaver, jiinr., A. Hickman, F. Stubbs, W. Opie, W. Bent; secretary, Mr. G. W. Rogers; treasurer, Mr. Chambers. A motion was passed expressing regret that Mr. Klingender had resigned and expressing appreciation of the great work done in the district by him during his term as vicar, and wishing him God's blessing on his work and on his family in their new district. i A vote of condolence with Mrs. Wright in the loss of her husband, who was for several years a member of the vestry, was passed. « FOOTBALL. The senior football season opens at Opunake on Saturday, with a match against Okaiawa. Play will commence at 3 p.m. sharp. The following is the team:—Bowman, Bayless, Rowlands, , O'Sullivan (2)i Sievewright, Kaniu, Bigger, Glentworth, King, McLeod, Tuwhaka, Hohaia, Rayhor and Martin. Emergencies: Opie, McLeod (2). As both seniors and juniors have been practising most assiduously, it te anticipated that they will give a very good account of themselves.
