STORM IN THE SOUTH.
SHIPPING DELAYED. ; Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Mr. Bates, Government Meteorologist, reports to-night that to-day's storm was part of a cyclonic disturbance which developed considerably during the day. He anticipates flooded rivers in the North Island, and along the east coast of the South Island. For the time for two | or three years the Lvttelton boat failed to leave port. Tho Manuka, which left the wharf just alter 5 o'clock, put back into the stream, and the Mararoa decided finally not to venture out. A heavy sou'-westor is tumbling up a biff sea at the heads.
SNOW p SOUTH CANTERBURY. Timaru, Last Night. ' A cold southerly storm raged yesterday, nnd nt nidit snow fell in the Mackenzie Country. Five indies fell at the Hermitage, and four inches at Balmoral and Tckapo, but only half an inch at Burke's Pass.
