The members of the Amalgamated Workers' Association employed by the Federal Government, who demand £4 tor a 44-hour week, are causing much inconvenience in the shipping trade. ■They are 'being supported by other workers, who are striking in sympathy. A peculiar feature is that Mr. Rylands, Director of Lands in the Northern Territory, and a special magistrate, who is j-, member of the Association, is amongst those called out, and was allotted picket duty at Government House. To overcome the difficulty, Rylands obtained holiday leave.

A SHIPYARD STRIKE. ' Sydney, May 1. Five hundred men are out at Cockatoo Island, and the "wliole work of construction m the Australian warships is suspended. Negotiations for a settlement of the dispute are proceeding.

THE COAL-MINING DISPUTE. Sydney, May 1. The Southern coal mine owners have officially notified that they are agreeable "to the resumption of work, and liave .ordered preparations to be Made for a start of the mines on Monday.
