LORD DENMAN.
TO VISIT, SYDNEY. ELABORATE PREPARATIONS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, May 1.
A large and representative gathering of citizens was held in the Town Hall, the Lord Mayor presiding, to arrange to welcome Lord Denman on his visit on Saturday to review the cadelfs, in such a manner as might be suitable, and to express the sentiments of the citizens towards the Governor-General. Mr. McGowen and other Cabinet Ministers sent excuses for their non-attendance. Speeches were made protesting against the action of the Government in robbing New South Wales of the GovernorGeneral's residence, stating a determination to wipe out the stain of the gross injustice cast on Sydney by the Government's action, and expressing loyalty to Lord Denman. as the King's representative for the Commonwealth. One speaker declared that they could at least show that Lord Denman had a residence in all loyal hearts. A fund was opened to meet the cost of decorating the city. : It was decided that a procession of carriages and motor cars should follow Lord Dennian's carriage.
