HEW PLYMOUTH SOCIAL NEWS Bridge.—Mrs. Chaney gave a very enjoyable bridge party last Thursday, the prizes being won by Mrs. Simpson and Miss Wood. Amongst those present were Mrs. Chaney, who wore a rich cream silk robe, finished with lace; Mesdames Blundell, H. Russell, A. MacDiarmid, E. Carthew, R. George, J. Wilson, Bradbury, Matthews, V. Elliott, Curtis, Simpson, Heard, W. Bayley, Medley, Stocker, Misses Waters, Hamcrton, -C. Bayly and Wade. Surprise party.—A number of young people arranged a surprise party last Tuesday at Mrs. George Potts' residence. It was quite a jolly little affair. The function was mainly given in honor of Captain Cornwall, who has been paying a short visit to his people in New Plymouth. Amongst those present were Mesdames Cornwall and G. Pott, Misses Matthews (2), Skinner (Blenheim), D. Bedford, Fookes, Blundell, Wade, Webster, Penn, S. Thomson and E. Bayley. Chrysanthemum Show.—Owing to counter-attractions, minor, as usual, hut which always seem to force themselves to the front when there is anything of special interest to be shown, the Chrysanthemum Show was only fairly well patronised, but those who were present enjoyed a magnificent floral treat, the variety of blooms, both of crysanthemums and dahlias, being simply exquisite. During the afternoon tea was arranged on the stage, which was remarked by many to be most, enjoyable. Amongst those present were MrsG. W. Browne, Mrs. Paul, Miss Mackay, Mrs. Les. Webster, Mrs. Fitzgerald, Miss Wade, Mis. Home, Mrs. J. H. Frethcv. Mrs. Arden. Miss Arden, Mrs. W. D. Webster, Mrs! F. Robertson, Miss Webster, Mrs. Dcvenish, Mrs. Hamerton (Inglewood), Miss Outfield, Misses Wingfield, Mrs. Bradbury, Mrs. Walker, Mrs. J. Paton, Miss B. Smith, Mrs. McKellar, Mrs. W. Bayly, Miss J. Curtis, Mrs. S. Shaw, Mrs. Taylor, Miss Taylor, Mrs. MacDiarmid, Mrs. Curtis.
PERSONAL ITEMS. Mrs. R. A. Gray, who has been the guest of Mrs. Gray, Palmerston South, has returned to New Plymouth. Mrs. Cruickshank, of New Plymouth, is on a visit to Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. Les. Nolan aud Miss N. Cape), who have been visiting Rotorua, have returned to New Plymouth. Mrs. W. Perry, who has been on a visit to Te Aroha and Auckland, has returned home. The engagement of Miss Driseoll to Mr. Hay worth, of Hawera, is announced. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Weston leave on Monday for Wellington, en route for England.
