V r . NOTES; " : The local Football CI lib 'held a successful social on Wednesday evening. *The committee did not spare themselves and the floor, was in.first-class order, the music; which' was supplied by Mr. Cannell (piano) Misses Cross (violins) and Mr. Eeabeau (baritone) being all that could he desired. The supper was in the hands of -the ladies' committee,-and "was voted first-class. Mr. Olliver Cross made an efficient M.C.. Messrs Cannell, Parkes and Grover all have fine residences in course of construction, and when finished they will add considerably to the appearance of the town. ■■-, ■_

Local citizens are rather disappointed at a start not yet having 'been made ■with the Stock Inspector's dwelling. The Public Works Department called for tenders for this'work a good while ago, but have not as yet accepted any tender. The reason for the delay is not known, hut it is hoped that the Department will ■consider Opunake's claims as' Veil-as those of other places and have this building constructed as speedily as possible. I regret: to chronicle the sudden illness of Mr. Multon, our local cordial manufacturer. Mr. Multon was' on a trip to !Wellingto» last week on business, and when he was about to leave for home lie was suddenly attacked with hemmhorage. He was taken to a private hospital, and his wife sent for. He las since been removed to the public hos-' pital, and I learn from latest new 3 that there is no hope held out for his recovery. His friends here hope that he will yet pull through and he back soon. A prominent New Plymouth .business man had rather an exciting experience whilst on his way to Opunake the other day. This gentleman purchased a new motor cycle and~took on this trip as his maiden ride. He is tipped by lovers of the game as being a good motor cycle steeplechaser. When he started on his journey his steed was very fit, and got over alt obstacles on the road until he •was near Rahotu, when he met a calf. He managed, however, to jump right over the animal without coming down. The next obstacle was a cow, but he fell at this hurdle. After righting himself he started off again. His next encounter was a travelling- van, . ■ His steed, however, shied at this, and he bent his fitirrups considerably. He again pluckily mounted his steed and proceeded further on the road. Before very long the horse's throttle went wrong, and he left him at a farmer's- residence for.the night to rest. Taking an ordinary cycle, he pedalled to Opunake. His horse was brought to Opunake the next day and taken to the motor veterinarian surgeons and put right. The horse did not seem too fit for its return journey, although the rider was cone the worse for his experience.
