Herries, Minister of Railways, whilst passing through Christchurch' this morning was interviewed with respect to the resolution arrived at last Sunday at a meeting* of railwaymen protesting against the action of the Government in closing the avenue of promotion from the second to the first division. Mr. TTerrics said that apparently there must be some misconception, for just recently men who had originally come, second division had been, promote.i and were bein? promoted. The Government had not blocked the avenue from the second to the first division.
