ANGLICAN CHURCH.

SEPARATE DIOCESE OF TARANAKI | i. PROPOSED. » Of special interest is the following I paragraph, .which is culled from the ant nual report of the Vestry of St. Mary's I Church:—"At a special meeting of the Vestry, held to meet the Ven. Archdeacon Cole, the question of the establishment of a separate Diocese of Taranaki was discussed. A review of what had been done at various meetings of the Synod to this end was given, and it was stated that the late Bishops of Auckland and Wellington had expressed their willingness to recommend their respective Synods to set apart a proportion of their endowments towards the establishment of the proposed Bishopric, and there was no reason to think that the present Bishops would act otherwise. Archdeacon Cole also stated that he had collected a certain sum for further endowments. St. Mary's would be the Cathedra! Church, and this would be provided for in the Declaration of Trust. A minimum of £SOO per annum for endowments was necessary. The boundaries of the proposed diocese were, roughly, Tirua Point on the north, the Waitotara river on the south, and ridges before coming to the Main Trunk line on the east. The following resolution was passed by the Vestry: 'The Vestry having heard from the Ven. Archdeacon Cole that it is his intention of founding a Taranaki Bishopric Endowment Fund and that he has requested the Vestry to act as an elective body for the purpose -of electing two trustees, one of whom, in the first instance, is to be a member of the Vestry, to act as trustees together with the trustees, of the Taranaki Church Trust, to manage and administer the said fund under a Declaration of Trust; be it resolved that the Vestry concurs and expresses its willingness to act as an elective body for the purpose, and will so act from' time > to time' as needs require."
