BROKEN BILL TROUBLE. THE OLIVE BRANCH REJECTED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. •Sydney, April 10. The 'Government has made a move •to settle the Broken Hill strike. It suggested that the Silverton Tramway Company should carry provisions and mails ■free, provided the union supplied men. 'lt also asked, if the men resumed work limmediately, whether the company would allow the dispute to be referred to a wages board. The company replied that all pickets must be withdrawn first, and then it would run provisions and mail trams at I the ordinary rates. .No reply was given to the second question.
; SOUTHERN MINING STRffiE. STILL AT LOGGERHEADS. Sydney, April 0. The Government made an offer to the parties in the Southern mining strike, the terms including a proposal that the Government should amend the Act, empowering tribunals constituted under the Act to consider the dismissal of employees. The • employers rejected the proposals.
WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN. Sydney, April 10. Business people regard the cessation of the -strike as • ending a condition verging on industrial paralysis and threatening to culminate in a sort of Black Wednesday.
MINERS WILLING TO RESUME. Received 10, 11.10 p.m. Sydney, April 10. A meeting of the South Coast miners resolved that Mr. Carmichael's terms of settlement were fair, and accepted them. It is stated that if the employers accept, the miners are ready to resume work on Monday.
THE BARRIER STRIKE. Sydney, April 10. The . Barrier mines are gradually closing, owing to want of supplies and means bf transit. Over 2000 mine workers are idle. The general position is unchanged.
