Lacombe, the motor bandit, while exercising in the yard, took advantage of the warder's inattention, scaled a railing and , reached the roof, whence he assailed his pursuers with tiles. Lacombe's lawyer was summoned and endeavored to persuade him to surrender. When the Fire Brigade arrived, Lacombe shook bis lawyer's hands and threw himself headlong, smashing his skull. Before committing suicide. Lacombe kept his pursuers at bay for two hours. Many prisoners witnessed the tragedy from their cell windows, and shouted '■Vive Lacombe! Vive Anarchy!" when Lacombe jumpe<|. A HUNGER STRIKE. Received 7, !>.oo p.m. Paris, April 7. Diendonne. the motor bandit, has begun a hunger-strike.
