EXPANSION AND TOURIST LEAGUE.
A meeting of the executive of the New Plymouth Expansion and Tourist League was held last evening, there being present: Messrs. W. C. Weston, G. White, Jas. MeLeod, W. Ambury, K. C. Webster, A. N. MacDiarmid, j. C. Morey, S. W, Shaw, and T. C. List. Mr. List was voted to tae chair, and subsequently unanimously appointed acting-chairman. It was decided to wait upon the Prime Minister on Saturday in regard to the preservation' of the native bush on the banks of the Mokau, and the establishment of a branch of the Tourist Department in New Plymouth. Five handsomely framed sets of views of the district, the work of Mr. W. A. Collis, were received, and it was decided to have them hung in the tourist offices in Wellington and Auckland. Recently an illustrated article appeared in the London Sphere about the ascent by Dr. Diffenbach of Mount Egmont in the days of Dicky Barrett, describing the event as of recent date. It was suggested that the chairman (Dr. Leatham) should be invited to wait upon the editor of the paper when he is in London and ask him to publish some modern views of the Mountain and a modern description. The matter was left in the hands of the chairman and Rev. J. W. Burton to attend to.
It was agreed to' combine with the Xorth Egmont Mountain House Committee, and wait upon the Prime Minister with a view to obtaining a vote for the upkeep of the Egmont Road leading to the Mountain House. The question of advertising the attractions of the district in a New Zealand publication was left in the hands of the Advertising Committee,
