IN BANKRUPTCY.
MAIL ORDER COMI'AXVS AFFAIRS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington. Wednesday. The a flairs of Morrow and Co., mail order agent*, were further inquired into yesterday by the Official Assignee. A statement was received from the Official Assignee in Sydney giving details of his investigation of the company's affairs. Its estate there was sequestrated in June. P.H2. the liabilities amounting to £1547 and the assets to £33l>. The Official Assignee here stated that he approached the Justice Department 'to have Howe, the Wellington manager and partner, brought back, but so far nothing had been done.
A creditor remarked. 'T will spend up to £SO to bring the man back."
The Assignee said nothing could be done without an order of the court. That was the worst of the Companies Act. He had recently wound up a small company, and it cost £BOO in expenses. It could have been done for £lO under the Bankruptcy Act.
It was finally resolved. "Tint the Justice Department be asked to lake the case up. seeing that at least !)(i people have been swindled out of their money and 1737 persons had paid a deposit on goods and they had received neither goods nor the deposits back."
