A PROSPEROUS PERIOD. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Wellington, Friday. His Majesty's Trade Commissioner inNew Zealand lias supplied the followinginformation concerning the external trade of the United Kingdom. Total values of merchandise imported into and exported from the United Kingdom in 1912 were considerably greater than in any previous year. The imooi'ts were valued at £745,000,000. The'exports of United Kingdom produce and manufactures were £487,000,000, an increase on the preceding year of £;i4,500.000 and £33,250,000 respectively. During the last ten years imports have increased by 41 per cent, and exports by 72 per cent. The foregoing relates to merchandise only. The total value of gold and silver bullion and specie imported and exported for tlie year were: Imports £09,500,000, exports'£os,ooo,ooo. The imports from New Zealand were valued at £20,303,000, and the exports to New Zealand at £10,382.000. ' The principal'imports were: Mutton £4,556,000, wool £7,701,000.
