NEW ZEALAND EGGS.
THE GOVERNMENT'S EXPERIMENT. The New Zealand Government is now trying (says the London Daily Mail) an interesting experiment which, it is hoped, will lead to the sending of large eon- - signnients of Antipodean eggs from that country to the British market. Some six weeks ago ten quarter cases, each containing 300 new-laitl eggs, left New Zealand by the steamship Rotorua for London, 'lhe eggs were J;ept on board at a temperature of 45deg. Falir. They arrived in this country on Tuesday, and although there was a surplus of eggs on the market, with a consequent fall in prices, the consignment found ready purchasers at the wholesale price of Ss per 120. "The eggs when tested were found to lie in splendid condition,' said a l'epi esentative of the lirm to which the eggs were consigned. Although they have been sent some 1 (i.OOll miles they can still fairly he described as "new-laid." .judging by an analysis. They compare very favorably with the eggs sent to this coimtrv from Russia and Denmaik. Hardly an egg was broken iu transit, and better prices will lie obtained for future consignments under normal conditions of market rates. I'i'oin our point of view the experiment has been entirely successful. _ ... EgUs are also imported into Britain from the following, among other countries:—Erance. 21)0 miles: Holland, *2411; Germany. 000: Denmark. 700; Austria. S:, 0: Hal v. 1000: Servia. 1000: Morocco., loOO : Russia. 1700; Canada. frSOO.
