ADVERTISING NEW PLYMOUTH.

TOURIST AND EXPANSION LEAGUE. A meeting of the New Plymouth Expansion .and Tourist League was held last evening, the Rev. J. W. Burton presiding over a good attendance of members. An offer was received on behalf of a well-known artist to paint a picture of the North Egmont Mountain House and the mountain, and hang it in the Auckland Exhibition, on condition that "theLeague agreed to purchase it at a certain sum in the event of it not finding a purchaser at the exhibition. —It was decided to assist the artist in every waypossible, but not to undertake any financial responsibility in respect to the picture. Reports were received from members of the Committee who had interviewed" the tourist offices in Wellington and Auckland re having New Plymouth and 1 district included in tourists' trips; also in the trips in connection with theAuckland Exhibition.—lt was decided totake further action in the matter, with these ends in view, and a sub-committee was set up to deal with the matter, and also to make representations to the Government to have a Government tourist branch established in New Plymouth, or to subsidise the League. The question of having luggagechecked from New Plymouth to Auckland, per steamer, was discussed. It was shown that luggage was checked from Wellington to Christchurch. ft was decided to write to the Railway Department on the subject. It was reported that a local stablekeeper was instituting a week-end service to the mountain, the cost per head to lie 10s. The secretary reported that 20ft copies of a special Taranaki number of the paper Progress bad arrived, and copies would he available to anyone desiring them. The excellence of the number was the subject of general comment.
