Captain Waller, the newly-appointed Harbormaster, lias arrived in New Plymouth, and -has taken up his residence temporarily at the Terminus Hotel. A Sydney cablegram states that Lord and Lady Chelmsford had an enthusi-' astic farewell on their departure for Loudon. Mr. Frederick Black is to be asked to visit New Plymouth at the earliest opportunity to confer with the Council as to terms upon whieli he will be prepared to act. as consulting engineer in connection with the tramways scheme. At the Supreme Court yesterdav, Mr. Tan Grant was, on the motion of Mr. J. Roy, admitted by His Honor Judge Denniston, as a solicitor of the Supremo Court. Mr. Grant has been with the firm of Messrs. Roy and Nicholson for the past five years, ever since entering the legal profession. Staff-Captain G .T. Glitheroe, who has been in charge of the Salvation Army Boys' Home at Eltham since it has been opened, has received orders to transfer to Christchurch. He will .be succeeded by Adjutant Scotney, from the Boys' Home at Wellington.—Argus. A Timaru telegram states that Mr. George Pearson, a bookseller and fancy dealer, died suddenly yesterday, aged 74. In the early sixties lie was engaged in small vessels on the coasting* r«ie.
