WAITARA NEWS.

(,From Our Own Correspondent). The Band Bazaar, held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, turned out a financial success, thanks to the ladies who undertook the onerous work. Inclusive of the art union over £l4O was taken, and, after payment of expenses, there, should be some £llO credit. This will nearly pay the Band's liabilities for instruments and uniforms.

Competing members of the Fire Rrigade returned on Saturday evening. Although not among the prize-winners they put up some very creditable performances, and came back with a better knowledge of brigade work than they went away with. A good joke is related at the expense of a New Plymouth fireman who, in one. of the competitions went away without one of the branches necessary for the event. The same member forgot to put on his helmet at the New Plymouth demonstration. He is now to be known as "Forgetful Henry." It is reported that he was so disgusted with himself that he took the first train home. The Waitara school children will hold theii- annual picnic at the East End beach on Friday next.

Eltham people speak very highly of their entertainment last week, when the big picnic was held. Soine 800 people came down for the day's enjoyment, and evidently had a good time.
