OBITUARY

THE LATE DR. HARRISON". A Press Association message reads as folows: —Absolute gloom was cast over the Elthain district by the sad death of Dr. G. A. Harrison yesterday morning. About a fortnight ago he attended, a child patient and operated for an acute abscess on the neck. When bandaging the wound he slightly pricked the thumb • of Lis left hand with the pin used for fastening the bandage. A few days later symptoms of blood poisoning were manifested and increased with alarming rapidity, and a week ago the arm was amputated. Since then Dr. Harrison has been lying in a critical condition, causing great anxiety to his medical attendants. He passed away on Sunday morning.

Very deep and genuine sorrow was expressed by the whole of the community at the death of Dr. Harrison. He was highly and deservedly esteemed by all who knew him, and'lie was known in almost every home in Eltham and surrounding district. The deceased gentleman was of a bright, cheerful disposition, and as a physician and surgeon his cheerfulness did much with his patients. This removal by death will leave a gap in Elthnm that will be hard to fill. Dr, Harrison is survived by his wife and two sons., who have the-sincere sympathy of the whole community. His sons are aged 17 and 12 respectively. Appreciative ■' references of fW late doctor's character as a physician and a citizen were made in the' churches on Sunday and appropriate hvmns were sung.

The late Dr. Harrison was 46 years of age, and was born at Walsall, Staffordshire, England. He was a B.A. of Cambridge, M.R.C.S., England, and a L.R.O.P. London. His father, who paid a visit to New- Zealand some two years ago. is Dr. A. J. Harrison, Failand Lodge. Clifton, Bristol, and was for some time lecturer on skin diseases at the Bristol Medical School, and was on the honorarr staff of the Bristol Hospital. The late Dr. Harrison was educited at Clifton College, and afterwards, at Pembroke College, Cambridge. He then went to St, Bartholomew's Hospital, London, and qualified for his profession i" .lu'lv. 1893. He came out to New Ze-Miid in January. 1804. and since that time has practised in Eltham.—Hawera Star.
