Mr. Bert Rawlcs, of Tauranga, arrived in Stratford last night, on a visit to his parents. 'Mr. IV. 11. Gifford, late genera i manager of the New Zealand Times, Ins purchased the Tauranga Times. Mr. IT. E. {Hogarth, representing Stone's Directory is at present in New Plymouth on a business visit. Word has been received that Mr. Phil Grey, son of Mr. George Grey, has passed the semifinal examination for his LL.B. degreee. He was successful in fire subjects.. Mr. V. B. Hall, who was recently appointed to the position of junior assist-ant-master at the New Plymouth High School, has received notice that he has passed his M.A.. degree.

A Melbourne cablegram states that Mr. J. Marshall, the well-known Dominion sportsman, arrived by the Otranto, en route to New Zealand, after an extended holiday in England.

A London cablegram states that the following have passed the promotion examination for the New Zealand staff:Captains Seddon and Barton, Lieutenants iFiniys, Mathers, Hay, Skelley, Avery, Keisall, Henderson, Braddell, Wood, Oardale, and Artillery-Major Pilkington.

Mr. T. H. Sandford, stationmaster at Waitara, on Saturday received notice of his transfer to the "charge of the Putaruru station on the Kotorua line. During his four years in Waitara he has been found an exceedingly courteous officer, and his departure will he regretted. The change, however, means promotion for hinr. Mr. Sandford's successor is Mr. Bourke, of Putaruru.— Waitara Mail.

Mr. J. TI. Rowe, manager of the Bank' of New South Wales, at,lnglewood. for. the past fifteen years, but who has been recently promoted to the position of manager of the Oamaru branch, was on Saturday entertained .at a farewell gathering. Mr. Vickers presided, and oil behalf of many Jnglcwood friends presented Mr. Rowe with a silver tea set suitably inscribed. Mr. Esse, successor to Mr. Rowe, who was present, was also formally welcomed.'
