By Telegraph—-Press Association. . Taihape. Friday

Soon after 2 a.m. to-day a lire broke out in the kitchen of the Trocadero restaurant in the main street. Tliu building was rapidly engulfed in flames, which spread to the adjoining shop, which was temporarily occupied by Semeloff with drapery, clothing and boots. The back part was used as a residence by Murray, the lessee. Both buildings were gutted. The brigade, helped 'by the excellent water supply, prevented the fire spreading to. the adjoining buildings on each side, which only suffered slight damage by heat and water. The occupants only had a few minutes to escape, losing all their property. The building was owned by A. Nathan. The insurances on the buildings were £4OO each in the Sun Office. Murray's furniture was insured for fIOO in the London and Liverpool and Globe. Fortunately there was no wind, otherwise, it would have been difficult to save the adjoining premises.
