INGLEWOOD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent/. Thursday morning being so gloomy and the appearance of rain so probable deterred a large number from patronising the Friendly Societies' Picnic, but those who went thoroughly enjoyed their outing, the weather at Ngaer'e 'being perfect, a gentle breeze temperingthe sunny aspect of the day. Everything went off well, owing to an energetic secretary and committee. Unfortunately the financial portion of the outing will result in a loss, but it is always a gamblein Taranaki with an outdoor function. A very heavily loaded train enroute for \\aitara conveyed the Eltham School chi dren to-day, and I hear that they had a most enjoyable trip. Although the wet has somewhat spoiled some holidays, it has done untold good to the turnip crops about, which are looking really grand.
