WELLINGTON WOOLLEN COMPANY. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent). Wellington, Saturday. The Wellington Woollen Company directors have declared an interim, dividend of 3 per cent, for the half-year. A STRANDED STEAMER. Wellington, Saturday. The inquiry into the stranding of the steamer John, near Napier, on December 18, concluded last night. The first officer, Roberts, was held, to be the chief pfTender and ordered to pay £3 3s towards the cost of the inquiry; the second officer, Atkinson, pays £l. OFFICERS' EXAMINATIONS. Wellington, Saturday. At the examinations recently conducted by the Defence Department for seven commissions in the New Zealand Staff Corps, eighteen non-commissioned officers were candidates. The first seven in order of merit to receive commissions are: Dovey 1, Rose 2, Atwell 3, Henderson 4, Catto 5, Bishop fi, McCristtelle 7. All these are Sergeants-Major. Regimental Sergeant-Major Kewisli and Master Gunner McDonald are to receive commissions in the Royal New Zealand Artillerv.
