SUPREME COURT.
WELLINGTON SESSIONS. Per Press Association. Wellington. Saturday. In the case in which Krausch, Reid and Eades were charged with theft, the jury returned a verdict of guilty against the first two and not guilty in respect to Eades. They added a rider that in their opinion, in dealing with suspects, it was advisable that when any person was asked to make a statement to the police such statement should only be made in the presence of a Justice of the Peace or a relative, and attested to by such persons. This recommendation was made with the object of preventing any possibility of any unfair methods being adopted by the police. The Judge undertook to forward the recommendation to the Minister for Justice.
O'Neill (who had pleaded guilty) and Krausch and Reid will be sentenced on Monday.
Tn the case of a man named Waters, charged with the theft of clothing, who was remanded for medical examination, the Judge decided to defer sentence until next session. In the meantime the man will remain in gaol.
