AN EXTRAORDINARY CASE.
WOMAN DEFIES TREATMENT. ILL IN SOLITUDE. Per Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. An unusual case was admitted to the Hospital to-day. About three weeks ago a woman named Editli Richards, living in Lome street, aroused the neighbors one morning and said that she had been very ill A doctor was sent for, but when he. arrived the woman refused to admit him. A second visit resulted similarly, and the doctor did not call again. Several times the neighbors visited the house, washed the woman's clothing, and attended to her wants. Her condition became very bad, but she refused information as to what was the matter. Today a constable called and was refused admittance. He then got in through a window. He found Richards in a°terrible state, pools of blood lying about and the place full of an intolerable stench. A doctor was summoned aiid said that the woman's case wag one of the worst he had seen. It was one of septic abortion, and the woman was remov.l to the hospital as quickly as possilb'e.
