MINISTERIAL.
MR. HERRIES AT DANNEVIRKE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dannevirke, Friday. The Hon. W. H. Herries arrived at Dannevirke last night. A deputation waited on him regarding local matters particularly in regard to the Tiratu native block, which the Government was urged to acquire in the interests of the town. The Ministers promised tnat the Crown would purchase if the natives were willing to sell at the Government valuations. He was not in favor of compelling the natives to sell the land before it was individualised, as they would not have had an opportunity of working their places. Regarding a dangerous railway crossing, the Minister said the whole question of railway crossings was being considered by the Department. He has reports on all dangerous places, with a view to devising some scheme to render them less dangerous. He left for Wellington at middajr.
