The .speaker said their guest had come with good credentials, and was also leaving'-them unimpaired. In many ways lur. Grimstone would be missed in other circles than banking, but all would be glad that their departing friend had received promotion. On behalf of his friends, the Mayor asked Mr. Grimstone's acceptances of a case of silver iish knives and forks,"and for Mva. Grimstone a silver-mounted bread board and fruit dish. The speaker then asked the company to toast the health of Mr. Grimstone, this being, done enthusiastically, with musical honors. In thanking the donors for their 3 gift and good wishes, Mr. Grimstone said he really regretted leaving Waitara, where he had made..many friends. At first, when lie arrived soma five years ago, he felt that ,he would not like the place, but his association with it, both in business and pleasurehad been very satisfactory indeed, and he left it with regret. Naturally, of course, promotion took the sting out of \Z a little, and, so far as he could gather, Eitham was a good place to be removed to. So far as Waitara and the district were concerned, he could only say that the first impression that it had a good . future before it had not been altered. Steady progress- had been made, and , would certainly continue to be made. The health of Mr. Grimstone and family was proposed by Mr. H. Brookman and responded to by Mr. Grimstone, who, on his wife's behalf, thanked their mutual friends for their many kindnesses. Mr. Srtibbs gave the toast of Mr. Grirnstone's successor, Mr. Were, who, in replying, said he hoped the good feeling and opinion of his predecessor, as shown by his friends, would fall to his lot during his stay in Waitara. The speaker was no stranger to Taranaki, and always had a desire to live in it, and that desire was now fulfilled. Like Mr. Grimstone, he Avas quite satisfied about the future of the district. Mr. Grimstone left for Eitham by the 12.50 train on Saturday, Mrs. Grimstone having preceded him. The Fire Brigade intend holding a concert on February 11, the night prior to their departure for the Wanganui contest.
