INGLEWOOD NEWS.

The Fire Brigade must be compliment- > \ ; ed not only on th# excellent showing <r, they made before Inspector Hugo in the ; early part of Thursday evening, but' :,i also for the good management evinced in .'<J the concert which followed. With two ■';. exceptions, the programme was rendered ''sj as printed, and was of, high quality '<-! throughout. The Waita'ra performers ;"' found great favor with the audience, and ~ obligingly responded with additional -'. items. The programme commenced with [ at selection by the Cottier orchestra, followed by a song from Mr. A. Hynes, "Bonnie Jean," and a piano solo by Miss Millar. A quartette by Misses Pearce , and Badley and Messrs Smith and ' * Broome was deservedly encored, a very - humorous item by the same performers, entitled "Basso Profundo," being given. Mrs. Hoby sang "The Old Countree" in' ; masterly style, her voice being well controlled. "The Skipper" was ably rendered by Mr. L. Sutherland, always a ': favorite with local audiences, who was ; encored. A vocal duet by Miss Laing '\ and Mr. Geddes also received an encore," /$ and a dainty little number by Miss " Airey (encored) preceded the last item \\ of the first part,-' a duet by Miss Badley ~p and Mr. Smith, in which botli voices' showed to great advantage, and which, ) of course, was encored. The second half '"■ opened with another fine selection by '/; the orchestra, and then Mr. Smith fol- ''; lowed with a good song, "My old grey " ; mare." Miss Badley gave us "A Red J Rose," and after Mr. Geddes had sung sllie again appeared in a duet with Mr. Smith, which was vociferously re-de-manded. A quartette closed the vocal -, portion, and then Mr. Frcwin gave us a good programme of films suitable to the occasion. The whole entertainment was very enjoyable, and it is to be hoped that it also helped the object of the gathering, namely, to help provide funds for the expenses of the team to go to the Wanganui demonstration.
