NEW LIBERAL LEADER. TARIFF POLK 7. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, January 21. It is reported that Mr. Cook gained twenty votes and Sir John Forrest nineteen. Mr. Irvine declined candidature. Mr. Cook announced that the Liberal policy would be the maintenance of the present Commonwealth tariff and the constitution of a permanent non-politi-cal body authorised to report to Parliament regarding industries and commerce, the effect of tariff upon capital and labor, and to make recommendations for the adjustment of the tariff. THE BLAYNEY SEAT. Eeeeived 21, 9.25 p.m. Sydney, January 21. In a speech, Mr. Beeby stated that he would support a Labor Government if returned for Blayncy. His supporters profess to be confident that he will secure a big Labor vote.
