Rescue boats were unable to approach, some being smashed on the rocks. CONFLICTING REPORTS. Received 18, 12.20 a.m. Lisbon, January 17. There are conflicting reports regarding the wreck of the Veronese. One account says that eighty-four passengers were landed and sixteen drowned. Another says that all were saved.
