DROWNING ACCIDENTS.
• TWO VICTIM'S AT WANGANUI. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. 1- Ani it.licr drowning fatality occurred in n the Wanganui River, the third within a week this morning. Arthur Hill Campbell, aged 33, married, with two children, was the victim. It appears that Campbell, who is a prohibited man, had been ; drinking heavily lately. About four I, o'clock this morning he escaped surveile lance at his home in Wanganui East, Sand though followed, made his way to s the Aramoho bridge and thence down to I the water's edge, and plunged in. The i body was recovered this afternoon. Campbell was recently, before the Court t on charges of theft and also with break- - ing his prohibition order, and probably j the convictions, allied with tlu: effects > of drink, upset lik mental balance. An inquest was held this afternoon - into the circumstances sin-rounding the ; death of John Brady, who was drowned at Kaiwhaike, on Friday. Evidence showed that when the cry: "Mail overboard" was raised on the Waiweve a life- , buoy was thrown out and the vessel put full speed astern. Another lifebuoy fell within Brady's leach, but he made no attempt to get it. lie appeared to have struck his head on something just, before his would-be rescuers could reach him. The body sank. Some coal and benzine tins had been stored amidships, .ami it was suggested that perhaps Brady tripped on these. He had had some drink, but was said not to be under 51 s influence. A verdict, of accidental drowning was returned.
