SLAUGHTERMEN'S STRIKE.
1 CANCELLATION gazetted. By Telejxrapli —Press Association. . ~ Wellington. Last Night. 1 In to-morrow's Gazette there will ap- | pear the formal notification of the ean- ] collation by the Labor Department _of j the registration under the Arbitration Act of the Slaughtermen's Federation, and its component unions. Almost to the last moment there was, a doubt as to whether certain information would lie received from the Canterbury Union in time, but the papers came to hand and were finally dealt with late this afternoon. Enquiries made by the Department have shown that there is no reason why • the cancellation should not be. granted, so that the added trouble which was threatened on the non-appearance of the notices in last week's Gazette need not now be feared. The cancellations will only just appear in time, so far as the Wellington and Canterbury unions are concerned, for the agreements under which the slaughtermen in those districts are working both expire at midnight to-night. If the cancellations by some mischance are not gazetted tomorrow evening the employers can absolutely prevent the men from making ; any move by filing in an industrial dispute on Friday morning. Such a development, however, is not likely to arise. The agreements under which the other slaughtermen's unions are working do not expire until the end of the month. So far as could be ascertained to-day, no 1 other unions have given notice of their intention to cease work. The arrangements seem to be that Wellington is to be the scene of the test of bci tween the"two parties. ] THE POSITION IN GISBORNE. | Gisborne, Last Night. I The Poverty Bay slaughtermen notified the local Trades and Labor Council : to-night that they would eease work as from the ."Ist inst. The local managers o? the freezing works will not state whether they have been notified or not. contenting themselves with stating that there is nothing fresh to report. Mr. C. A. Delatour, managing director of the Sheep Farmers' Company, went south by the Takapuna, together with Mr. Warren. "New Zealand secretary for Messrs. Nelson Bros. MAY EXTEND TO WAITARA. It is stated there is a probability of the Waitara butchers "downing knives." in sympathy with the butchers in Wellington. on Monday morning. It is to be hoped the rumor has no foundation.
