FIRES.
BOARDING-HOUSE BURNED. By Telegraph —Press Association. Blenheim, Wednesday. A ten-roomed wooden building occupied bv Frederick Batchelor as a board-ing-house was totally destroyed by fire last evening. Mrs. Batchelor was the only one at home at the time, and she was out in the yard. She heard a rumbling sound, looked round, and saw the kitchen in flames. A strong wind was blowing, and the flames rapidly spreading, there was no chance of saving anything. A number of boarders lost practically everything. Batchelor was also a heavy loser. Insurances on the furniture a lid effects were f-240 in the Guardian. The building was owned by the Home Estate, and'was insured for £4OO in the Victoria Fire Office and £2OO in the Alliance. FIRE ON THE NAIRNSHIRE. Invercargill, Last Night. Shortly after 10.30" last night a fire was discovered in No. 1 shelter deck of the s.s. Nairnshire. 'Die. ship's officers, assisted by some of the crew and the waterside workers, got a hose to work, and. after half an hour's work the fire was put out. It was discovered that some tow had taken fire, but the extent of the damage done by the fire and water is not at present known. TIMARU ROAD BLAZE. On Tuesday morning a five-roomed house on Timaru road. Tataraimaka, owned and occupied by Mrs. Wisnewski. was completely destroyed by lire. There was an insurance of :C 120 on the cottage. in the State Office, and Cl.lO on the furniture and cfiects in the Ocean Company.
