FATAL KICK FROM A HORSE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Pahiatua, Wednesday. A man. named French Louis, was ki! led by a kick from a horse at Aolumjj: yesterday. KILLED BY A FALL OF EARTH. Hastings, Last Night. James Svmes, single, aged about 4(1 was entombed by a fall of earth on tin Borough drainage works this afternoon The deceased, who was a layer. w«: working in a trench at a depth of L feet when the side caved in, and he wai buried by about a ton of earth. Tin body was recovered two hours later, bin life was extinct. Walter Frederick Lam belt, who was working on the suri';ic< when it collapsed, was buried to tlu shoulders. He seized a plank of sup porting timber, which prevented him be ing completely submerged. Lambert ir not seriously injured. CUT BY A BINDER. Timaru, Last Night. John Mann, employed at J. Bray's farm at Cricklewood, was doing something to a binder when the horse bolted, dragging him under the machine for a long way. lie was terribly cut about the legs and body. One leg had to be amputated. He was shortly-to be married, and his fiancee is on the way out from England. THE NEW BRICHTQN FATALITY. Christchurch, Last Night. An inquest was held to-night on the victims of the drowning fatality at Herring Bay, New Brighton, yesterday. A verdict of accidentally drowned was returned. Evidence was to the ell'ect that Mrs. Height was in difficulties before her brother-in-law Height entered the water. He jumped in partially dressed and went to her assistance, but was dragged under, both being drowned. SUICIDE BY HANGING. , Christchurch, Last Night. A married woman named Laurina Lamb, aged 47, was found hanging in the. hall of her residence at Sydenham this afternoon dead. At the inquest a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane was returned. A PECULIAR DEATH . Gisborne, Last Night. An old identity, named Edward James Campion, was found dead under somewhat peculiar circumstances to-night in a room off the rear of the office of James Brown, land agent. Brown reported the death at fl p.m., and stated that Campion came to his office at 4 p.m. and remained there till about 8 o'clock. Campion laid down as though to sleep, and Brown discovered that he was dead. Life was extinct when the police and the doctor arrived, and two empty whisky bottles were found near the body. Campion's daughter is in Brown's employ as clerk. Deceased was a wellknown figure about town, formerly in business as a surveyor, and has relatives in Napier. ACCIDENT AT HUIEANGI. A serious accident befel Mr. 0. J. Herrick, of Huirangi, on Tuesday evening. lie was out in the hay-field with his mowing machine, when the breeching broke, and the horse started kicking. Mr. Herrick, who was seated, driving the animal, received the full force of the animal's lashings on his leg, and the result was a bad fracture. -Medical services were secured, and Mr. Herrick was conveyed to the hospital, where, oil enquiry last evening, we learned he was doing as well as could be expected.
