PIRATES IN CANTON.
A REIGN OF TERROR. London, January 1. Canton province, in China, is experiencing a reign of terror. When the revolution was proceeding 40,000 pirates enlisted as soldiers on the side of the Republicans, and afterwards demanded heavy compensation before they would disband.. The money was they have Ceft Canton city, where 50,000 soldiers have been continually under arms for fear there should be an outbreak. The country districts were denuded of military protection, and now that the pirates have gone back to the provinces it is known that they have started their old pursuits. Canton city is controlled 'by a man named Tutuh, an obscure journalist. He holds receptions/and so great is his fear of assassination that nobody is permitted to attend unless first stripped and searched, or else the seeker of an audience is compelled to shout his requests from the far end of the huge audience chamber. The revolution has merely delivered a free people into the victims of a condition of bondage.
