MYSTERIOUS DISAPPEARANCE.
A CURIOUS CASE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. A sensational disappearance is reported from Petone. A man named Carte* proceeded to lock up his house, whic\ is isoirted and surrounded by trees, when hp heard a man approachjjom behind. Seeing Carter the ma:i bolted. Carter called to his son, who had just retired. He jumped out of tie window and chased the burglar i" er the fence, and neither has been seen since. Jio one saw Carter jump tluriigu the window, but it is presumed h'> must have, as some of his clothes were in his room. Carter holds a chief engineer's certificate, and has been absent from home six or seven years. CARTER RETURNS.
Wellington, Last Night. Frank Carter, who disappeared from his home at Petone on Saturday night, in peculiar circumstances, returned home late to-night. He was in a famished condition and had apparently been wandering about the country' in the meantime.
