BOWLING.

Matters on the local bowling greens were very quiet this holiday season, probably owing to the fact that six rinks from the various New Plymouth Clubs were participating in the tournament, "which is being held at Wanganui this week. It is the first tournament that the Wanganui Clubs have arranged, and is being held on the Wanganui, St. John's and Gonville greens. New PlyI mouth Club is represented by three rinks I respectively skipped by Messrs. Bundle, 11. Smart and A. Smart; Fitzroy by .two skipped by Messrs. Abbott and Jackson; West End by one skipped by Mr. Johnson. The tournament opened on Boxing Bay, when three rounds' were completed in the various sections. The position of the local rinks at the end of the first day's play was as follows: —A section (St. John's Creen), New Plymouth (H. Smart) 3 wins; B section (Gonville Green) New Plymouth (Rundle) two wins one loss; Fitzroy (Abbott) two wins <w.e loss; Fitzroy (Jackson) two losses one bye; 0 section (Wanganui Green), New Plymouth (A. K. Smart) two wins I loss; Wanganui (London) lowering his colours by 32 points to 8; West End (Johnson) 1 win,, 2 losses. The only local match during the holidays was played on the Fitzroy green on Christmas Day between rinks from the Fitzroy and West End Clubs. The absence of several players from both clubs at Wanganui seriously interfered with their strength, but a most enjoyable game eventuated, resulting in a win for the local 'team by 33 points. The green was very keen, and this somewhat affected the West Enders early in the game. A return match will be played at Wist End on New Year's Day. The detailed scores, West End being mentioned first, were:—
