Penfold, while descending in a parachute from a balloon over London, from a distance of 3000 feet, dropped 500 feet before the parachute opened. He was carried three miles by the gale, but landed safely. A BATTLE FOR LIFE. London, December 26. Edward Petre was a brother of Henry Petre, who recently sailed for Australia as the Commonwealth aviation instructor. Petre made a desperate struggle against the gale, seeking a safe landing.
