THE TELEGRAPH STRIKE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, December 16. A big meeting of telegraphists decided, to work under the new schedule for one week, pending representation to Mr. Fisher witlu the view of having the matters in dispute submitted to arbitration at the earliest possible moment.
POSSIBLE DELAY IN CABLEGRAMS.

The new schedule of hours for telegraphists comes into force at eight o'clock this morning. The men say they will be working, but will continue the old hours whatever developments may arise. Messages for New Zealand may possibly be able to reach the La Perouse cable station, whence the Eastern Extension Company's operators will transmit them.
AN INJUDICIOUS INVESTMENT.
London, December 15.
The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants has £48,050 in the fighting fund, which is invested in British railways, and every strike depreciates the stock.
THE MIDLAND RAILWAY TROUBLE.
London, December 15
At the request of the Midland Railway directors and the Amalgamated Society of Railwaymen, Mr. Buxton has appointed a commissioner to enquire into the alleged breaches of the 1911 settlement. .
A SETTLEMENT REACHED.
London, December 15.
Mr. Chester Jones, tho Magistrate, found that Knox was not drunk. Mr. McKenna has advised the King to grant him a free pardon. The strike has been settled, and Knox will he reinstated. The strikers who resume will be fined six days' pay. The men's representatives have agreed not to strike in future without legal notice. The men employed during the strike have accepted compensation in lieu of continued employment. The strikers are dissatisfied with the settlement, and declare that their leaders have sold them again.
COST OF THE STRIKE.
London, December 15. The railway strike has cost the NorthEastern Company £50,000.
THE SETTLEMENT DENOUNCED,
Received 10, 9.5 p.m. London, December 10.
The strikers' lines aggregate £7OOO. Many sectional meetings of strikers wrathfully denounced the leaders for the settlement.
