It was stated that it might be found necessary to provide further accommodation at the Mountain during the holidays, and provision for an adequate supply of tents, it was agreed, should be made.
The matter of improving the boating facilities on the lake in Pukekura Park was considered, and the suggestion made that notice boards, giving the scale of charges, should be erected at convenient points for the information of visitors. It was also suggested that it might pay the Board to undertake the service itself and make extensions. A committee was appointed to wait upon the chairman of the Board in reference to the matter.
The Borough Council is to be written to suggesting that cab proprietors be required to place in their cabs a card giving particulars of the scale of charges. Complaints re the irregular and heavy charges levied at times by some of the cab-drivers wore voiced.
tt was decided to suspend the canvass for further subscriptions till after the kolidays. The Literary Committee brought down its report, which showed the illustrated folders were now being printed, and that steps were being taken to revise and bring up to date the information in Cook's, the Union Steam Ship Company's and Xew Zealand Government Guides relating to this district. It was suggested that the Minister in charge of the Tourist Department should be waited upon when lie visits Xew Plymouth, as he may be doing shortly, with a view to bringing directly under his notice the claims of the district to better treatment at the hands of the Department in the matter of making known to tourists and outsiders generally tne scenic attractions of North Taranaki. Failing this, it was suggested that he should be waited upon in Wellington early in the Xew Year. The committee also asked for authority to put in hand the preparation of an illustrated booklet.—The latter work was authorised and the general report adopted. It was mentioned that some of the beautiful bush covering the banks of the Mokau river was in danger of destruction, and to prevent this, if possible, representations in the proper quarter are to be made at once. A donation in connection with the supply of photographs was received from Mr. W. A. Collis, who was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
The secretary (Mr". Snowball) inti mated his desire to be relieved of hii duties as soon as possible, owing to the increasing work connected with the League interfering more than he had anticipated with his ordinary business. Meantime he would be pleased to render the League any assistance in his power. Rergret was expressed at Mr. Snowball's decision, and it was decided to call, through the press, for applications for the position, a committee being set up to arrange terms and conditions.
It was mentioned that no reply had yet been received from the Railway Department relative to the League's repre•entations for the issue of weekend excursion tickets from Hawera to Xew Plymouth during the summer months.
The question of securing cheaper transit facilities to the new Mountain House was discussed. It .was suggested that the stable-keepers might be prepared to run brakes to the Mountain at week-ends at a rate within the means of the groat bulk of people, and also that motor-ear owners might arrange a cheaper service than the present one. The matter was left to a committeo to ■take enquiries of the owners of vehicles and cars.
