Bishop Wood, who was consecrated at Dunedin this year to succeed Bishop Cecil Wilson, visited his diocese for the first time on this cruise. In the course of an interview with a Star reporter, he expressed himself as infinitely pleased with the work of the Mission as he had seen it. Its system was one which any mission in the world might envy, and lie spoke with a knowledge of the work of missions in many parts of the globe. The fact that its work was carried on by 700 native clergy and lay teachers, under the. superintendence of only twenty English workers, including ladies, showed that the right policy was being pursued, namely, that of laying the foundation of a distinctly native church, to be established when the time was ripe. The Bishop will be in Auckland for a short time as the guest of Bishop Orosslev, and will attend the sitting of the General Synod at Nelsoa in January. He remains in New Zealand till the departure of the Soutliern Cross in April, working in the interests of the Mission. The Rev. IT.
