DISCOVERY OF SILVER LODE. Sydney, December 4. An important discovery of silver has been made at Cowell. Specimens from a well-defined lode assayed 7860 ounces of silver and ay 2 'per cent, copper to the ton.
THE SHIPPING TRADE. Sydney, December 4. A movement is afoot to federate all worker* connected in any way with the shipping trade. About 25,000 men are involved. One object is to provide against the wholesale involvement of maritime unions in industrial disputes precipitated by a small minority. Provision is made against the cessation of work, unless authorised by a duly appointed council of the new body, which, after exhausting all efforts to effect a settlement, may recommend a general or partial stoppage.
